Unit 2 Blog

This term, I studied at one of the leading animation studios in the UK, which is called the Blue Zoo, the first large-scale animation studio in the world certified by B Corporation.

I was interested in the role of storyboard cleaner. My understanding of this job is that in a high-end CG children’s TV series, I need strong narrative and painting skills, as well as a clear understanding of composition and layout. Each day’s work might start with the story team’s initial board and additional director’s notes, and this skill is critical to getting clear storyboards that will be used throughout the production process.

If I wanted to succeed in this role, I would learn how to use thumbnails and director feedback to create coherent and accomplished storyboards, successfully interpret and apply comic time in scripts and thumbnails, and draw characters on all boards to maintain consistency and perspective and maintain the model. Also, working with the story lead and project director to ensure fixes and feedback are incorporated into the storyboard.

It also requires a good understanding of perspective, the ability to take advantage of the strong position and personality of a particular application, an understanding of layout and composition, the Ability to present and complete with own understanding of stories, the ability to guide and be willing to handle constructive feedback, and ability to communicate clearly with colleagues, work together and independently, the appreciation of project accuracy and close attention to detail, ability to work on time and under pressure, calm and efficient.

It is important to create project thumbnails to ensure the continuity of the story, to be able to add comments and additional thumbnails and to make sure they are complete and clear.

Because I think the job role is very interesting, and can early through a rough animated storyboard created the story, let the prophase work of this project have a framework and direction, the overall control style and narrative way, through the interpretation of the thumbnail and storytime, can help the director and the team to realize ideas and creativity, to clean up the line for the animation production process to clear. Maybe if you want to be a qualified animation director in the future, you should start by being a qualified storyboard and cleaning artist, laying a solid foundation and practising more.
